Family Movie Night: The Incredibles

An “Incredible” Movie Night ✨

It started like most evenings in our house—AG in her post-dinner, pre-bedtime wind-down… or rather, her determined-to-avoid-bedtime-by-any-means-necessary phase. You know the one. That late-night silliness hits hard when you’re nine, and suddenly everything is hilarious, dramatic, and absolutely urgent.

Then she called out to Erik, full of flair:
“Erik, look at this!”
And just like that, she transformed. Arms stiff, posture fierce, she began strutting across the living room, fully embodying the iconic Edna Mode walk—yes, darling, that Edna Mode. No capes!

I giggled, first at her uncanny impression, but then because… was that a full-on deep knee bend? Her joints were jointing. Erik blinked in mild confusion.

“I don’t get it,” he said.

Silence.
AG and I slowly turned to him, eyes wide.

“You haven’t seen The Incredibles?” I asked, borderline scandalized.

“Nope.”

AG and I gasped in unison like two very offended cinephiles. And without missing a beat, we declared:
“Okay, that’s the next movie night.”

Fast forward to tonight: the lights are dim, the blankets are fluffed, and we are fully committed to our Incredible family film fest. And you know we couldn’t just press play—we had to go full themed menu. I love when I can tie the food to the movie in a fun, cheeky way. There’s a whole dinner scene in the movie (yes, with meatloaf), but since we’re not a meatloaf household, we pivoted. Hard.

Here’s what made it to our “heroic” table:

🍔 Mr. Incredible’s Burger Bar

Thick, juicy, and bold—just like Bob himself. We went full DIY station with all the fixings so everyone could build a burger with heroic proportions. (I recommend a brioche bun. Always.)

🧀 Elastigirl’s Stretchy Mozzarella Sticks

Golden on the outside, gooey on the inside—these are a fan favorite. Stretchy, snacky, and served with marinara for extra flair.

🍇 Violet’s Vanishing Grape Juice

Because she turns invisible, obviously. A chilled grape Kool-Aid burst (I swore I would never give my child one but here we are).

🍟 Dash’s Super Speedy Curly Fries

Because no movie night is complete without fries, and these go from freezer to crispy perfection in no time flat. Dash would approve.

🍫 Jack Jack’s Two-Bite Brownies

Tiny but mighty—just like the baby of the fam. Rich, fudgy, and exactly the kind of treat that mysteriously disappears while you're not looking. AG only approves of H-E-B’s.

❄️ Frozone Ice Pops

We had to. Classic icy treats, perfect for a post-burger cool-down. Bonus points if you shout “Where. Is. My. Supersuit?” before you eat one.

There’s something really fun about leaning into these themed nights—where food becomes part of the storytelling, and the living room transforms into something a little more magical. Even Erik was into it by the end, fully invested in superhero family drama with a frosty ice pop in hand.

AG, naturally, stayed up way too late, but we’ll call it a win.

Next up: convincing Erik to watch The Cheetah Girls… 🐾✨ Cheetah-licious dreams incoming.
