Skincare Sunday

Slow Sunday: Let’s Talk About Skincare

Sundays are for moving slow — like, “two cups of coffee before I answer a text” slow. It’s the one day I actually pause long enough to breathe, stretch, and maybe even pretend I’ve got my life together. For me, that usually means skincare. Not the rushed weekday routine where I’m slapping on moisturizer with one hand and grabbing my keys with the other. I’m talking about the long, luxurious version where I actually enjoy the process.

Here’s the thing: skincare isn’t about chasing some unattainable “glass skin” fantasy (although I was never influenced to buy seventeen serums). It’s about checking in with yourself. Is your skin thirsty? Tired? Or maybe, miracle of miracles, it’s glowing because you actually drank water this week?

Confession time: I spent my teen years assaulting my face with every harsh product I could find. If it stung, burned, or turned my face red, I thought, yes, this must be working. (Spoiler: it was not.) These days, I’m a reformed product junkie and the most loyal customer Face Reality could ever dream of. I’ve been using their products for four years, and unlike everything else I tried, they don’t strip, burn, or leave me regretting life choices. Growth, right?

Now, full honesty: I am terrible at drinking water. Like, days are just busy and I forget to pick up that water jug for a sip or two. But here’s the thing, your skin notices. Hydration from the inside out is just as important as the fancy creams on the outside. So I try… really hard… sometimes… okay, mostly I just talk about it while sipping coffee. Baby steps, people.

My Sunday lineup is simple but feels like a whole vibe:

  • A gentle cleanser to wash away dirt, makeup, and the week’s questionable decisions.

  • A nourishing mask because, honestly, it just feels fancy.

  • A moisturizer that makes my skin sigh in relief. Bonus points if I light a candle and convince myself I’m at a spa.

  • A targeted treatment for acne or dark spots, because sometimes you’ve gotta call in backup.

If you’re building (or simplifying) your routine, here are the true ride-or-dies everyone should have:

  • Gentle Cleanser – because your skin deserves a hug, not a wrestling match.

  • Moisturizer – think of it as your skin’s iced latte; it can’t live without it.

  • Sunscreen – non-negotiable. The best anti-aging cream is the one that prevents the damage in the first place.

  • Exfoliant (sparingly!) – a little buff, not a full sandblast… once a week is plenty.

  • Serum or Oil – totally optional, but like sprinkles on a cupcake, they just make things extra nice.

At the end of the day, skincare isn’t vanity, it’s self-care. It’s slowing down, paying attention, and saying, “Hey, skin, thanks for putting up with me.” Whether your routine has one step or ten, what matters is that it feels good for you.

So here’s your Slow Sunday reminder: take the time, do the mask, slather the moisturizer, spot-treat that pimple, and bask in the glow of future-you saying, “Wow, thanks for that.”

And because I know someone’s going to ask, yes, I linked my favorite products (the ones I actually use and love!) down below and also alongside the routine suggestions above. Consider this your permission slip to browse, treat your skin like it deserves, and maybe… just maybe… drink a little water too.
