Self-Care: Absolutely Nothing

Self-Care for Moms: Permission to Do Absolutely Nothing

Moms, let’s talk about self-care for a second.

We pour and pour and pour into our families—because we love them, because we want the absolute best for everyone, and because (let’s be honest) we’re often the glue holding it all together. But here’s the thing: we can’t keep pouring from an empty cup. At some point, we have to refill it.

That’s not selfish. That’s survival.

Taking care of yourself isn’t about spa days or elaborate routines (though if that’s your vibe, go for it!). Sometimes, self-care looks like… doing absolutely nothing. And honestly? That might be my favorite kind.

For me, the perfect self-care day usually happens on a Sunday. And it looks a lot like this: me, in bed, surrounded by pillows, not moving unless I have to. I’m either reading, doomscrolling TikTok (no shame in my algorithm), or watching truly terrible reality TV—the kind where people argue about nothing and I find myself weirdly invested in their drama.

Meanwhile, Erik brings me my favorite cup of coffee (Cafe Bustelo all the way) or his now-famous ramen noodle recipe (which I will be sharing soon, promise), and I just exist. I let my brain disconnect. I let my body rest. And when I finally peel myself out of bed, I feel reset. Refreshed. Ready to take on the week.

So this is your reminder: take care of yourself. Whatever that looks like for you.

Maybe it’s silencing your phone. Maybe it’s taking three naps in a day. Maybe it’s arguing with your favorite reality TV stars through the screen. Whatever helps you recharge, do it. No guilt. No explanation needed.

Because the truth is, the best version of you—the one who shows up fully for your family—is the one who’s been taken care of, too.
