Slow Sundays: Mother’s Day
Slow Sundays: A Mother’s Day to Savor
There’s something magical about a Sunday morning—the way the light filters in just right, the stillness before the week begins again, and the permission it gives us to slow down. And when that Sunday also happens to be Mother’s Day, it feels even more sacred.
Welcome to the first post in my Slow Sundays self-care series—a little space where we embrace rest, ritual, and the beauty of handmade moments. And what better way to start than by celebrating the mothers, grandmothers, mother-figures, and nurturers in our lives?
This Mother’s Day, we’re leaning all the way in to softness. No rushed reservations or overpriced bouquets—just slow coffee, cozy breakfasts, homemade gifts, and meaningful time together. It’s self-care for her, and self-care for you too.
Here are a few of my favorite Things Made From Scratch to help make this Mother’s Day feel thoughtful and slow:
1. A From-Scratch Brunch (With Love Baked In)
Think warm cinnamon scones, herbal tea lattes, and a rustic frittata made with seasonal veggies. Whether you’re serving it to someone special or treating yourself, there’s something grounding about cooking slowly and intentionally.
2. A Handwritten Letter or Journal Entry
Skip the store-bought card and write something real. Share a memory, a lesson she taught you, or simply a thank-you. Bonus: if you’re a mom, write a note to yourself—something to read next year when you need a reminder of how far you’ve come.
3. A DIY Spa Moment
Make a simple sugar scrub with lavender and honey, or whip up a nourishing face mask using pantry staples. Light a candle, play some soft music, and let the moment be enough. No fancy spa needed.
4. A Slower Kind of Gift
Instead of something wrapped in plastic, gift an experience or something made with your own hands—pressed flower bookmarks, a stitched sachet of dried chamomile, or a photo album filled with shared moments.
5. A Chapter (or Three) of a Good Book
There’s nothing quite like getting lost in a story on a quiet Sunday morning. Whether it’s a dog-eared novel you’ve read a dozen times or a new book you’ve been saving for “when there’s time,” this is the moment. Curl up with a blanket, sip something warm, and let the words carry you somewhere soft and slow. Bonus points if you read outside in the sunshine.
However you spend your Mother’s Day, I hope it includes a deep breath and a pause. That’s what Slow Sundays are all about: finding beauty in the little things, and giving yourself (and others) permission to rest.
Happy Mother’s Day, from my cozy little corner to yours. ☕
