Family Movie Night: Inside Out 2

A Little Movie Night Before School Starts

It’s AG’s last week before school starts again, and what better movie to watch than Inside Out 2? AG’s cousins spent the week with us, so we wanted to give her a little movie night magic of her own before everyone headed back to their normal routines.

This was Erik’s first time watching Inside Out 2, and let’s just say… I think us adults probably enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than the kids!

I’m always amazed by Pixar’s ability to take something as complicated as our emotions and turn them into a story that makes sense to both kids and adults. In about an hour and a half, they managed to capture so many of the emotions we experience as we grow, change, and try to figure out who we are.

And Anxiety? They absolutely nailed it.

There’s something about watching Anxiety take over Riley’s mind that feels almost too relatable. The way the thoughts start racing, the pressure builds, and suddenly everything feels like it has to happen all at once. It’s such a simple but incredibly powerful way to show what an anxiety attack can feel like.

That scene gets me every single time. It’s one of those moments where you can’t help but sit there and think, Wow. They really did that well. Pixar has such a unique way of making something so complex feel understandable, and I think that’s one of the reasons Inside Out 2 has become one of those movies that hits a little differently when you watch it as an adult.

And maybe that’s why this was the perfect movie for this particular week.

The end of summer can bring a whole mix of emotions; excitement for a new school year, nerves about what’s coming, sadness that summer is ending, and maybe a little anxiety creeping in about everything that comes with a new year. It felt fitting to spend one more evening together before the backpacks come out and our routines start all over again.

For this movie night, I decided to do something a little different and went with a brunch menu. There’s just something so fun about waffles, pajamas, and a movie night, especially when you’re trying to squeeze in a little more summer fun before school starts.

The girls even took over the kitchen and made the waffles themselves! They were incredibly simple, but so tasty and comforting, the kind of recipe that doesn’t need anything fancy to be good. And honestly, having the girls make them together made them even better.

So this movie night was less about an elaborate spread and more about enjoying one of those simple summer moments that you know you’ll miss once the school year gets busy again.

A good movie, time with cousins, homemade waffles, and one last little taste of summer before the school year emotions kick in.

Sounds like a pretty perfect way to wrap up summer to me.
